Cooling gel on my forehead and neck. A wet cold towel over my torso. One fan pointing up my body. Another directly at my face. An ice-cold drink within reach. Lying completely horizontal.
This is what it takes for me to be comfortable enough to do… absolutely nothing.
That sentence captures something people often miss about invisible illness. Doing nothing is not always passive. Sometimes it requires equipment, planning, support and every available piece of energy.
From the outside, it may look as though I am simply lying down. What cannot be seen is the work involved in regulating temperature, reducing stimulation, managing pain and preventing an already difficult day from becoming a full crash.
Comfort is not indulgence in those moments. It is symptom management.
Rest is not laziness. It is often the only responsible decision available.
